A colossal undertaking with an unforgiving deadline, Navillus is proud to have successfully renovated one of the largest and most complex underground transportation systems in the world-without disrupting service.
The Grand Central Station renovation project called for the installation of over 200,000 square feet of wall tile, decorative mosaics, and granite to the station’s labyrinth of walkways, platforms, and mezzanines. In addition, Navillus project team was responsible for demolishing and then rebuilding the station’s stairs, walkways, and train platforms.
The Metropolitan Transit Authority established strict shutdown time frames within which Navillus had to plan and coordinate its work. Despite a rigorous work schedule and intense deadline pressure, Navillus completed this four-year project on time and without any hindrance to train schedules.
